What is Stenosis?

I will try to explain this in the simplest way I can. We have a spine which is made up of 24 little bones. Your spine was designed in a way that it provided "canals" or holes which nerves pass through. The holes were designed to have plenty of room for these nerves. Sometimes these holes become too small. This is called stenosis.

There are many reasons why they become too small:. a) Bone may grow inside the hole, b) The back part of the hole is made up of a ligament. Sometimes due to stress on the spine this ligament becomes thickened, c) Sometimes a disc buldges into the hole. This too is due to stress on the spine. Matter of fact all three are due to stress on the spine.

I'm sure you have heard me talk about "subluxation". You know, when a bone moves out of place. This will also cause stenosis. It also causes your spine to become unstable, which then causes one or all three of the above to happen.

The best way to prevent all of this is with regular adjustments. Over the fifteen years of practice, I have noticed that there are a lot of people that dislike the so called "popping" and "cracking" so much that they will wait till they are so bad that they can't bear it anymore. Well, there has been a new technique that I have been looking at for quite a few years. During this past year I have been traveling back and forth to places like Chicago, Indiana and Oregon to get certified in this new technique. The technique is called Cox decompression adjustment and manipulation. For those of you who have been in lately you have noticed that room one has a new table. This table is specifically designed for this technique. I would like to invite any of you to come on by and either I, Julianne or Christi will show you the table.

How to protect your health over the Holiday Season.

During the busy holiday season, we often forget our health in the bustle of all the festivities. Often times we end up getting sick before our holiday has even started, or after the gifts are opened and the family has gone home. This holiday season we encourage you to remember the gift of your health and to protect it during the celebrations with family and friends.

Here are some ways to keep your body healthy:

Stay away from Sugar: Eating one gram of sugar compromises your immune system by 50% for up to 48 hours. Use unsweetened fruit juice, unsweetened applesauce, dried fruit, and ripe bananas in your favorite family recipes instead of sugar.

Exercise: Keep up your exercise routine, or start a new one. Exercise boosts your body’s immune system and helps deal with stress.

Drink plenty of water: Your body needs one quart of water for every 50 pounds of body weight. Keep hydrated and your body will be more able to flush toxins from your system.

Eat healthy meals: By eating smaller, lighter meals throughout the day, you will keep your blood sugar at a more constant level, and prevent binge eating. Also include plenty of fruits and vegetables along with healthy whole grains, nuts, and beans.

Take your vitamins: Getting the proper daily dose of the vitamins you need to stay healthy will go a long way in preventing disease. Vitamin C in particular is needed to keep your immune system healthy.

Keep up your chiropractic care: Often in the business of the season it is easy to forget or put-off your appointments. Keeping your regular chiropractic care will ensure your central nervous system is free of interference, and keep your immune system strong.

None of these steps alone is the “magic cure” for staying well this Holiday season, but doing all these steps together will keep you healthier during this busy time.

We wish you a very Merry Christmas from our family to yours.
